From Pandemic to PCS Proud - Our Care Staff Stories

Ella Ashton

1. What or who made you decide you wanted a career in care and is it something you have always wanted to do?

During the pandemic last year, I was often finding myself struggling to keep myself busy and active as I’m such an on the go person. A friend who worked at PCS had spoke to me about the job role and that they was looking for more staff experienced and those who had no experience like myself. I had never thought about starting a career in care until I got the job and now I’m thrilled that I get to do what I love everyday.

2. Can you describe your experience as a Care Assistant, working throughout the pandemic and what impact this experience has had on you?

Being a Care Assistant is something I am very proud of. The rapports that we build with clients is very special and essentially we have more members of the PCS family every day. The experience of being a carer in a pandemic has taught me that no matter the experience clients are very patient and are willing to help you in any circumstances that you are a little nervous to complete.

3. If you had to describe your employment with PCS in three words, what would they be?

Inclusive

Supportive

Collaborative

4. What inspires or motivates you to get up every day during a pandemic and continue doing your job to the best of your ability?

My clients are the ones that inspire me to get up everyday and continue my work as a carer. They always get up everyday to tackle the day to the best of their abilities and that pushes me to help assist them to live their life to the fullest.

5. Has your new chosen career changed your perspective on the healthcare sector, if yes, please explain how?

Being a carer has lead me to think more about work In the healthcare sector. As a law student, care work is on the other end of the spectrum. However, I continually enjoy everyday that I work for PCS and it has lead me to think about what the future could hold for me if I was unsuccessful in my professional aspiration career. Almost 6 months working in care and I could not be happier with the choice I have made during these challenging times.
