It's also possible that some people are more vulnerable to SAD as a result of their genes, as some cases appear to run in families.
There are treatments for SAD and these include:
- Light therapy: Using a light box or sunrise alarm clock to simulate sunlight
- Exercise: Regular physical activity can help improve your mood
- Healthy eating: Make healthy choices for meals and snacks
- Sleep: Get enough sleep, but be careful not to get too much
- Stress management: Learn techniques to manage your stress, such as yoga, tai chi, or meditation
- Socialisation: Make an effort to connect with people you enjoy being around
