From Pandemic to PCS Proud - Our Care Staff Stories

Nathan Keziah

1. What or who made you decide you wanted a career in care and is it something you have always wanted to do?

Honestly, I very much fell into the Healthcare sector after losing my business during the lockdown. I took a long time out during that year and didn't apply for any work; I just looked after my health whilst figuring out what I wanted to do next. I knew Chris from working in the bar industry years ago, and after hearing how good PCS was from him, I was eager to give it a try.

2. Can you describe your experience as a Care Assistant, working throughout the pandemic and what impact this experience has had on you?

It's done me a world of good. I have some purpose back in my life again, and I've found my clients, colleagues and managers to all be really happy, energetic and positive people to be around. Every day brings new challenges, but I wouldn't change it.

3. If you had to describe your employment with PCS in three words, what would they be?

Dynamic

Fun

Meaningful

4. What inspires or motivates you to get up every day during a pandemic and continue doing your job to the best of your ability?

In this job, you quickly realise that the bonds you forge with clients go past the careworker-client relationship to become friends or family. I don't struggle to get up each day because I enjoy working with my clients and co-workers at PCS, and that makes all the difference. It inspires me to know that my efforts each day can drastically alter someone else's life, and knowing this spurs me on to go the extra mile.

5. Has your new chosen career changed your perspective on the healthcare sector, if yes, please explain how?

Absolutely, careworkers are critical to society, and this has only been highlighted through the pandemic. It sounds corny, but this work is so meaningful and life-changing.. it constantly motivates me. Due to this job, I now have a bit more meaning to my life again during this pandemic. It's also made me reflect deeply on my own life. I have become grateful for my health, and I am living my life in more of a mindful and present way.
