From Pandemic to PCS Proud - Our Care Staff Stories

Ella Kitts-Tucker

1. What or who made you decide you wanted a career in care and is it something you have always wanted to do?

I’ve always been interested in the care sector, I never knew how to get into it as a job, and then my mum joined the company, and truly enjoyed it, and she encouraged me to join, and get involved, and after a few week, I was starting, I was ready trained, and prepared to start. If I weren’t for my mum, I don’t think I would have joined this company, so it would be her, that has helped me and encouraged me to do the thing I’ve always wanted.

2. Can you describe your experience as a Care Assistant, working throughout the pandemic and what impact this experience has had on you?

Working through the pandemic has been tough, there a lot of covering shifts for people who were off, and supporting people more emotionally as they can’t see there loved ones, but the company has been fantastic in working together to support the staff that they have, to make sure they are safe and secure when working and going into the clients houses. I feel comfortable when going in and caring for my clients, and feel like I’ve personally grown within the company.

3. If you had to describe your employment with PCS in three words, what would they be?

Collaborative

Supportive

Family

4. What inspires or motivates you to get up every day during a pandemic and continue doing your job to the best of your ability?

The fact that I am out there, helping and supporting those people that need care, that is what helps me wake up every morning and go to work. The smiles on the people’s faces keep me going, because I know that is what I need, along with what they need. I would hope that carers would treat me the same way, and go in with big smiles on their faces, so that is what I do, and they truly appreciate it, so knowing that help me.

5. Has your new chosen career changed your perspective on the healthcare sector, if yes, please explain how?

Yes, a lot of people see the care sector as going out and washing the elderly. And it’s not. There are people of all ages, genders and they all need care for different things. There is more to the job than just, self care, it is talking, and creating bonds with the clients. I can happily say that all of my clients are like family, and I like to think they see me the same way. People don’t truly know what it’s like to work within the care sector until they’ve done it, and when they have done it, it’ll change their lives for ever, and for the better.
